Top 5 Cities for Bike Theft in Germany

Germany’s strong cycling culture has been accompanied by rapid growth in higher-value bicycle segments, particularly E-bikes and cargo bikes. From looking at the LITELOK Theft Intelligence Dashboard, it is estimated that around  50% of bicycle thefts in Germany go unreported, significantly higher than the 8% reporting gap for motorcycle thefts. This means that while official theft figures appear to be declining, they only reflect the incidents that are reported to the authorities, and therefore may not represent the true scale of bike theft across the country.

Berlin

As Germany’s largest city, home to more than 3 million people, it’s perhaps no surprise that Berlin ranks as the number one city for bike theft according to the LITELOK Theft Intelligence Dashboard.

But there’s much more to Berlin than its reputation for stolen bikes. With its mesmerising architecture, rich history, iconic monuments, thriving arts and culture scene, and reputation as a popular clubbing capital, the city has plenty to offer. For cyclists, Berlin is equally appealing, with protected bike lanes, dedicated shared lanes and a network of famous cycling routes that make it a popular destination for exploring on two wheels.
